MovieNight’s Groups, Events, and Calendar experience has been rebuilt to make planning a watch party easier from start to finish.
Planning a movie night with friends should feel exciting—not like a scavenger hunt through messages, calendars, and spreadsheets. MovieNight’s Groups, Events, and Calendar experience has been rebuilt to make organizing a watch party easier from start to finish.
Groups are easier to manage
Groups now have a cleaner, more mobile-friendly layout with clearer navigation between groups, events, and the calendar.
Group founders can create groups, upload or replace a group image, rename or delete groups, manage founder permissions, remove members, search for users by username, and cancel invitations before they are accepted.
Inviting someone no longer adds them immediately. Instead, they receive an invitation that they can accept or decline. When someone accepts, the new member and existing group members can receive an email notification.
Events now bring the group together
Events are aggregated across the groups you belong to, so you no longer need to select a group from a separate events dropdown just to find what is happening.
Founders can create and edit events with titles, descriptions, start and end times, locations, optional movies, optional event images, and group assignment for new events.
The event movie search now uses the same full-text matching and availability filtering as MovieNight’s main movie search, making it easier to find the movie you actually want to watch.
Everyone gets a voice on scheduling
Plans change. A date or time that works for one person may not work for everyone else.
Group members can propose a different event date or time, with optional end times. Other members can review the proposal, email the group about the update, and finalize the new schedule.
When a proposed time is accepted, the event is updated, other pending proposals are closed, members can be notified, and the new schedule appears in the calendar.
RSVPs are clearer
Members can respond with Going, Maybe, or Can’t go. Event views show RSVP totals, pending responses, and each group member’s response status. Founders can send event emails to everyone or target members by RSVP status.
The calendar now tells the full story
Calendar entries can include the event title, movie name and release year, group name, event images or movie artwork, location, description, RSVP totals, and member response details.
Whether you are viewing a month, week, or individual day, the calendar gives you a quick picture of what is planned and who is coming.
Designed for every screen
The Groups, Events, and Calendar experience has received a styling pass focused on mobile usability and readability, including responsive layouts, touch-friendly controls, improved borders and contrast, clearer founder actions, and consistent segmented navigation matching Settings and Profile.
More than a calendar
Groups, Events, and Calendar are now connected as one planning experience. You can invite the right people, choose a movie, schedule the event, collect RSVPs, adjust the time when needed, and keep the final plan visible to everyone.
MovieNight is built around watching movies together. These improvements make the “together” part easier to organize.
