Voting on your seen list, more optimized.
We have updated how the Versus feature works, and if you've spent any time ranking your seen list, this one is for you. Moving forward, you will vote on each unique matchup pair exactly once. Once every possible pair on your list has been decided, voting stops automatically — no more endless loops, no more wondering whether you're actually done.
Why we made the change
The old system would happily keep serving you matchups forever, including rematches of pairs you had already decided. That created two real problems, and this update solves both:
It caps total votes. Your ranking now has a clear finish line. With every unique pair voted on once, you know exactly how much work stands between you and a complete ranking — and the app tells you when you've crossed it.
It ensures fair comparisons. Results are no longer skewed by voting on the same matchup multiple times. Every pair carries equal weight, which means the ranking that comes out the other side is a truer reflection of how you actually feel about your movies.
There is one small trade-off worth knowing about. If you add a new movie to your seen list after reaching the voting cap, that movie needs to be voted against every other movie on your list before your ranking is complete again. It's a bit of extra clicking, but it's also the only honest way to slot a newcomer into an established ranking — and honestly, deciding whether your new favorite beats your old favorites is half the fun.
The new History tab
We also added a History tab to the Versus panel. It lists every matchup you've ever decided, and clicking any of them lets you change your previous vote — perfect for those "wait, did I really pick that?" moments. A built-in search bar helps you jump straight to the specific matchup you want to redo, even if you've cast hundreds of votes.
We believe this is a major optimization to the Versus system, and rankings built under the new rules will be meaningfully more accurate. One note for existing users: because old data may include duplicate votes on the same pairs, you may want to reset your Versus history to establish a true ranking from a clean slate. Happy voting!
