Hacking. Stealing. Surviving.
He’s a Wardriver: a hacker who steals from banks, not people—until he’s noticed. Now the money turns violent, and the woman caught in it could save him or kill them both.

**Predictable, deceptive, and strangely addictive** A curious crime thriller that delves into the urban cyber-noir subgenre through a story of guilt, broken ethical codes, and roaming city technology. It is superficial, relies on every genre cliché, and has a few plot holes and absurd details, but overall, it will keep you glued to the screen. Cole makes a stealthy living practicing "wardriving," a technique that involves cruising the streets in his car looking for vulnerable Wi-Fi networks to execute electronic money diversions. He always operates under a strict, self-imposed moral code: steal only from large corporations and banking entities that won't suffer a real impact, always protecting everyday citizens. However, his methodical routine crumbles when the bouncer of a luxury restaurant catches him in the act and, instead of reporting him, extorts him into carrying out a large-scale hack against a regular customer of the establishment. The telematic heist is executed successfully and Cole manages to steal $800,000 from Sarah's account, but the consequences are immediate and devastating: The stolen money actually belongs to the hidden funds of a dangerous crime syndicate that, upon discovering the embezzlement, assumes Sarah has betrayed them. The mob gives the young woman a one-week ultimatum to return every single penny if she wants to save her life. Being fully aware that his actions have condemned an innocent person, Cole decides to break all his rules and embarks on a frantic race against time across the city, hacking ATMs en masse to gather the loot before the deadline expires. "Wardriver" is built as a thriller that fails to break away from the usual clichés of the genre. The narrative is presented with a raw, realistic, and cold tone, replacing overwhelming computer screens with a much more physical staging, where the danger is felt not so much on the keyboard as in the dark avenues the protagonist travels in his Mitsubishi Evo. This aesthetic approach provides the production with great pacing and a dense, magnetic atmosphere that sustains interest from the very first minute. The protagonist's transformation from the comfort of his small, invisible thefts to the absolute desperation of emptying ATMs against the clock generates a constant and well-managed tension but, as mentioned before, the script shows certain limitations as it approaches its ending. Although the initial premise and the moral conflict are solidly established, the middle development tends to rely on some predictable conventions, and the resolution of the web of lies requires certain narrative licenses that take away some of the strength from the initial realism.

Full review: https://fandomwire.com/wardriver-review/ Rating: B- "Wardriver is an atmospheric thriller that succeeds more as a character-driven drama than a high-octane heist flick. While the pacing might feel a bit too deliberate for some and the technical polish occasionally falters, the strong performances from Dane DeHaan and Sasha Calle make it a journey worth taking. In an interconnected world, our most private actions can have devastating public consequences, and true redemption requires stepping out from behind the screen and into the light."
