A space princess is thrust out of her sheltered life into a galactic quest to save her bounty hunter ex-girlfriend from the straight white maliens.

I enjoyed this movie deeply. It's a fun romp which humorously attacks the dominance of heterosexual white men across the globe, as well as a nice story about tackling impostor syndrome. It falls on some visual motifs from popular magical girl anime. Nothing it said was particularly new, or earth shattering, but not everything has to be. It was fun, cute, a little bit sexy. I personally resonated deeply with the main character (I often feel like I'm from space, being a trans-lesbian). I found the music sweet, great for fans of Sidney Gish or Frances Forever. If you've ever fallen victim to "useless lesbian syndrome" this movie is made for you.

*(note4me: copied from letterboxd) - 28 August 2026* ***Spoilers, beware*** This certainly was... something. Music wise, this was horrible. The songs were so bad I cringed. As for storytelling, I think the only things I liked about it was that the maliens got together and that bitch Kiki was left behind. If you take this movie purely as satire its really funny because of how bad/random it is. What really frustrated me was how there was no resolution between Saira and Willow? She just left them on that random planet? And does Saira return to Clitopolis (absolutely insane name btw)? What about her parents? Putting the singing, character design, resolution, the homophobic & misogynistic issues with the story, and everything else behind, its not that bad? Its definitely a fun watch (even if some of the jokes feel like it drags on forever), and makes for an interesting experience. I did like the character development with Saira at the end, that was definitely satisfying. Not horrible tbh, just really, really weird lmao

There's two ways a comedic movie can go. Be funny and have an underlying emotional subplot, or double down on the comedic aspect, not to be taken seriously. Lesbian Space Princess is the latter. I love media like that, but the thing about doubling down is that if it's not funny, I'm just looking at moving pictures. My own thoughts had more screen time than the main character. This is the first movie where I have felt nothing. I'm not even mad at it.

On a planet of lesbians ruled by her disappointed mothers, "Princess Saira" always ends up in the singles section of their annual celebratory ball. Then she goes and gets herself a girlfriend called "Kiki" and their hopes for their daughter skyrocket. Sadly, though, "Saira" proves a little too intense and girly for her more adventurous pal and so she gets dumped. Meantime in a galaxy far, far, away a trio of white straight "Malien" are desperate to find themselves a chick. They concoct a cunning plan to kidnap "Kiki" - and then use her as bait to lure "Saira" to their planet where they can pinch her labrys - a sort of inner power, only sexier - and then they will end their decades of enforced abstinence. Still totally loved-up, the ill-equipped princess sets off on an intergalactic rescue mission that suggests she's going to be easy pickings for her mighty foes. Or is she? There are a couple of fairly blunt messages here that illustrate just how difficult it can be for a child to emerge from her own chrysalis into a world of expectation from family, friends and even from herself - as well as playfully encouraging us to pity the poor heteros who can't get laid anymore. Along the way, this enjoyably paced animation squeezes in some genuinely funny - if maybe a little crass and certainly very stereotypical - humour that did make me smile and reminded me that this was a typically irreverent and groundbreaking Aussie production. It won't be for everyone, but I did quite enjoy it.
